About Soekarno-Hatta Airport
The primary airport serving the greater Jakarta area is Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, located on the Indonesian island of Java.
Soekarno, Indonesia’s first president, and Mohammad Hatta, his first vice president, were honored by having the airport named in their honor. Indonesians frequently refer to the airport as Cengkareng.
The Cengkareng area, a neighborhood to the northwest of the city, is where the airport’s IATA code, CGK, comes from. It is approximately 20 kilometers from Jakarta.
In 1985, Soekarno-Hatta Airport opened for business, taking over for the defunct Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in East Jakarta and Kemayoran Airport (for domestic flights) in Central Jakarta.
As of later, Kemayoran Airport was closed. The Halim Perdanakusuma is still in use, primarily for charter and military flights.
The airport’s grounds span 18 km2 of land. Two cross taxiways connect the two distinct, parallel runways, which are 2,400 meters apart.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport Terminals
The Airport has three main Terminals: Terminals 1, 2, and 3.
1. Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 1
At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Terminal 1 is the main building. It was finished in 1985 and situated across from Terminal 2, on the south side. Most of the flights it conducts are domestic.
This Terminal has three sub-terminals. Twenty-five check-in desks, five baggage carousels, and seven gates are present at each sub-terminal. This facility can accommodate 18 million tourists annually.
The first Terminal’s gates have the letters A, B, and C as their prefixes. A1 to A7, B1 to B7, and C1 to C7 are the gates.
2. Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 2
Terminal 2 is the second Terminal at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and was finished in 1992. The location is on the north side, across from Terminal 1. This terminal serves international flights.
There are three sub-terminals in terminal 2 with 25 check-in desks, five baggage carousels, and seven gates in each sub-terminal. This facility can accommodate 19 million tourists annually.
The Terminal 2 gate has the letters D, E, and F as a prefix. D1 to D7, E1 to E7, and F1 to F7 are the gates.
3. Soekarno-Hatta Terminal 3
In 2016, the brand-new Terminal 3 Ultimate of Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport opened.
The new Terminal offers numerous contemporary comforts and has modern, ecologically friendly architecture. Each year, Terminal 3 can accommodate 25 million international travelers.
The new Terminal 3 features ten gates for international flights, 18 for domestic flights, 206 check-in counters, 38 self-check-in, 12 bag drop counters, 59 aerobridges, and an extensive range of duty-free stores and restaurants.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport Transportations
As of October 27, 2021, Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng has two shuttle bus services. Paid Service and Existing Service are the two services.
This Paid Service is for airport employees and the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport community, whereas the Existing Service is for plane passengers and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport community employees.
The free shuttle bus picks up and drops off passengers at Terminal 2 Gate 3 Departure and Terminal 3 Gate 3 Departure.
This shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes from Soekarno-Hatta Station to the Terminal and is available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport Duty-free
Indonesia now forbids duty-free shopping upon arrival. However, you can purchase your duty-free items when leaving from this Airport or on departure.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport vs Halim Perdanakusuma Airport
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, the rehabilitation of Halim Airport aimed to improve the airport’s ground and air facilities as well as its comfort, security, and safety during flights.
Halim Airport underwent a brief closure as part of the renovation beginning on January 26, 2022.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport, approximately 40 kilometers away, receives diverted flights from Halim Perdanakusuma.
Halim Perdanakusuma diverted 21 of its flight routes to Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
