Khao Yai National Park in Central Thailand is the third biggest park in the country. It is the first national park in Thailand and established in 1962. The main national park is located in Nakhon Ratchasima Province and extends to Saraburi, Prachinburi and Nakhon Nayok. The Khao Yai National Park location is about three hours from Bangkok by car or motorcycle.

In the 2,168 square kilometers of the national park area, there are rain forests, grasslands, and the highest mountain with 1,351 meters high named Khao Rom. The park is also the part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site named Dong Phayayen-Kaho Yai Forest Complex. It houses kinds of mammal, bird, and reptile species. You can see all of them as long as the trail if you are lucky.

Khao Yai National Park Entrance Fee

As a famous destination for local and foreign tourists, Khao Yai National Park Thailandis very busy on holidays and weekends. The entrance fee to the national park is 400 Baht for adults and 200 Baht for children. To enter the national park, you can choose the main entrance at the north through Pak Chong. Otherwise, you can choose the south entrance through Nakhon Nayok.

How to Get to Khao Yai National Park from Bangkok

As it is only three hours away from Bangkok, it is possible to get to Khao Yai National Park by motorcycle, a scooter, or a car. Exploring the park by motorcycle will also be enjoyable. Many bikers in Thailand also choose the national park as their destinations.


The visitor center is about 13 km from the north checkpoint. But there is no public transportation to the area. From Bangkok, take a bus from Bangkok to Khao Yai National Park or minivan to Pak Chong, then change the route to Songtaew to the north checkpoint.

If you use the public transportation mode from Bangkok to the north of Khao Yai, it will take about 4 hours. But if you choose to reach the area by taxi, it will take about 2.5 hours and costs 2,200 Baht (from a hotel in Central Bangkok) and 2,300 Baht (from the nearest airport to Khao Yai National Park).

Khao Yai National Park Accommodation

There are plenty of guesthouses and hotels outside the area of the national park. You can find the list on the website of Khao Yai. Besides, you also can choose to stay in the bungalow inside the national park area. But you should book it in advance through the website of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation. Two Khao Yai National Park camping grounds are also available inside the national park, rent a tent if you want to experience camping in the forest of Khao Yai National Park in Central Thailand.
