You must have known that Maldives has so many touristy places. But do you know what the airport looks like there? Let’s find out all about Malé Airport here.
About Malé Airport
Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, commonly known as Velana Airport, is the other name of Malé Airport. The airport is at Malé, on Hulhulé Island, the island’s capital, which is part of the North Malé Atoll.
The airport made its grand entrance on April 12, 1966. The Maldives Company Limited (MACL), a separate corporate entity, is in charge of managing its financial and administrative operations. It is governed by a Board of Directors selected by the President of the Maldives.
On July 26, 2011, “Malé International Airport” was formally renamed “Ibrahim Nasir International Airport” in recognition of Ibrahim Nasir, the Maldives’ second president. It is well known that he founded the airport in 1960.
This airport is unlike any other airport in the world and is quite distinctive. The airport connects to other prominent airports across the world and acts as a significant entry point for travelers visiting the Maldives.
In the areas of amenities, comfort, hygienic conditions, shopping, food and beverage options, personnel help, security, and immigration, Malé International Airport has received a rating of three stars.
Many international airlines offer flights to the Maldives. Within the Maldives, domestic flights are also served by Velana Airport.
Two independent seaplane companies, Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) and Island Aviation Services (IAS), operate separate terminal facilities on the east side.
Terminals and Facilities
Both domestic and international flights land at Malé International Airport. You may reach the domestic terminal, which is three minutes away, by walking to the right of the international arrivals door.
Sadly, the terminal’s infrastructure is not designed to support the volume of travelers arriving at the adjacent islands. The result is that the check-in and immigration areas are regularly busy.
The range of dining, shopping, and entertainment options is, nonetheless, very enticing. Among the amenities provided are a food court, a prayer room, a baggage store, a post office, and numerous others.

Hotels
The Maldives are well known for their abundance of lodging options, including accommodations close to airports. Therefore, you don’t need to worry about Maldives hotels. The selection of hotels is broad, according to your needs.
For those of you who arrive late at night and might need to wait until the next day to take domestic flights, the Maldives International Airport offers a hotel for overnight stays.
There is free transportation to the hotel, and the bus ride there takes 5 minutes. The bus stop is to the right of the arrival exit on the path going to the domestic terminal.
There are several more hotels close by, including the Hulhule Island Hotel, Maagiri Hotel, Saman Grand, and many more.

Transportations
The Maldives Airport provides access to public water travel, public land transportation, and public air transportation. You should select it carefully. Choose that best satisfies your needs and budget.
The Maldives is one of the world’s most dispersed countries, and because all of its islands are encompassed by the ocean, a domestic flight transfer is occasionally necessary for visitors.
The domestic terminal’s entry is where you can easily find the check-in counter. Domestic flights are now the only ones available and quite busy, so if you need to fly domestically, you must make reservations in advance.
