About Nan Airport
Nan or Nan Nakhon Airport is a regional airport in Nan Province. It was established years ago, to be precise in 1980. However, the name was only given by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2015. At that time, she attended the opening ceremony of the new terminal in the airport.
Nan Nakhon Airport code is NNT. It is vital in northern Thailand as the fastest way from Bangkok to the town, helping people save time. If you travel from Bangkok to Nan by bus, you could spend 10–13 hours on the road. Meanwhile, by plane, you only have to spend around 1 hour.
The airport is situated at Nan Thung Chang Road, Pha Sing Subdistrict, Mueang Nan District, Chang Wat Nan 55000, Thailand. It’s convenient because it’s not far from downtown. By car or motorcycle, you only need to drive around 3–4 km (8–12 minutes) to the city center.
You can land here to visit Mueang Nan, Mae Charim, Ban Luang, Na Noi, Pua, and its neighboring districts.
Currently, Nan Airport only serves domestic flights from Bangkok to Nan Province and vice versa. In the past, it also served some other routes to other cities in Thailand, such as Phrae, Chiang Mai, and Phitsanulok.
However, flight operations to these destinations have stopped since 2022. The airport is constantly exploring new opportunities and may reopen these routes in the future.
The Chiang Mai route has been reopened several times but has stopped operating since 2019. In 2001, the airport also opened an international route to Luang Prabang Airport in Laos. However, it only operated for one year, until 2002.
Two airlines land at Nan Airport: Thai AirAsia and Nok Air. Both airlines serve in one terminal; you will learn more about it in the next section!
Nan Airport Terminal
The airport has a simple layout, marking the arrival and departure areas. The existing terminal at Nan Airport, which serves both departures to and arrivals from Bangkok, is considered new because it was built in 2014 to replace the old terminal. The new one has only been actively operating since 2015.
Nan Nakhon is a small airport and serves around 400,000 passengers per year. The number of passengers increased dramatically after the construction of the new terminal. Before 2015, the airport served fewer than 100,000 passengers per year. Along with establishing a new terminal, facilities at Nan Nakhon Airport are also better than before.

- Car Rentals, if you plan to drive during your stay. The fare is varied, usually starting from THB 620 (USD 18.28).
