About Subang Airport

Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah-Subang-Shah Alam Airport

As one of the international airports in Malaysia, its existence is very important. You might also know the airport by its other name: Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah-Subang-Shah Alam Airport or Skypark.

The airport had been inactive for almost 22 years, with flight operations only resuming in July 2024. Skypark was once Malaysia’s main gateway, at least until the 1990s. During that time, it was the busiest airport in the country, leading the government to develop plans for its expansion. However, the project proved unfeasible due to the presence of Shah Alam Mount and its proximity to residential areas.

That’s why the government plans to build another airport in Selangor, specifically in Sepang. Its name is Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which will replace Skypark as the country’s main gateway.

However, the government regrets if they have to ignore it just like that. Therefore, they seek to rejuvenate the airport. The project will finish in 2030.

Since 2024, Skypark has served flights for multiple towns in Selangor, especially in Petaling and its neighboring districts. The airport is located at M17, Skypark Subang Terminal, Lapangan Terbang, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Petaling District, 47200 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.

It is only 9-10 km (8-10 minutes by car) from downtown Subang Jaya and 22-24 km from Kuala Lumpur. This close proximity ensures a smooth transition from your flight to your destination, making your journey more comfortable.

This airport serves both domestic and international flights. Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kota Bharu are the most popular domestic routes. For the international ones, the most popular routes are Jakarta, Batam, and Singapore.

Multiple airlines operate in the airport, such as:

  • AirAsia Malaysia
  • FireFly
  • Batik Air Malaysia
  • Transnusa
  • Scoot
  • SKS Malaysia

Subang Airport Terminal

terminals in Subang Airport

There were three terminals in Subang Airport to serve international flights, flights to Singapore, and domestic flights. However, after the establishment of KLIA Airport, some adjustments were made.

At first, the government considered closing the airport permanently after building KLIA, but they ultimately decided against it. Instead, they demolished Terminal 1 while overhauling Terminals 2 and 3 after years of inactivity.

Following its reactivation, only one terminal is currently in operation, serving both international and domestic flights. The airport now handles around 200,000 passengers per month. Since it has not been a year since reopening, only monthly data is available—there are no annual statistics yet.

The rejuvenation of the terminals has not been finished yet. However, you can still access some facilities at Subang Airport. The information is in the next section!
