Kuala Lumpur International Airport
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the main gateway catering to international flights. It is located on the southern area of Sepang – around 75 kilometres away. In this airport, you can find 2 buildings: the Satellite Building and the Main Terminal Building. The Satellite Building is for international departures and arrivals, while the MTB is for the domestic flights and several international ones.
Both of them have impressive construction and sleek structure. KLIA 2
Whereas the KLIA is serving the international flights, the KLIA is the biggest airport for cheaper budget flights. The location is set 2 kilometres away from the Main Terminal Building and it is completely a separate and independent system.
It has its own air traffic control tower and runway. This airport is replacing the old LCCT (Low-Cost Carrier Terminal) serving many budget airlines, such as Lion Air (Indonesia), Tiger Airways (Singapore), Cebu Pacific (the Philippines), and Malindo Air and Air Asia.
The Facility
As the international airport in Malaysia, the KLIA has quite a complete facility. You can find restaurants, shopping stores and areas, luxury lounges, duty-free shops, and even play areas for the kids. Once you arrive in this airport, you will be at the Arrival Hall at the Satellite Building. If you want to go to the Main Terminal, you can use the aerotrain that will take you to Gate 5.
The Regulations
Naturally, this is also the place to deal with your custom and immigration. Be sure to learn about the country’s regulation before entering the nation. For instance, you are allowed to bring personal possessions like cosmetics and cameras, while you are only allowed to bring one litre of liquor or one cigarette carton into the country. Firearms, pornography, and narcotics are not allowed.
The Transportation
Reaching the airport is pretty easy and convenient. Because of the location, you can use the train to go to and from the airport – they are the high-speed types, so they are quite convenient. If you decide to drive on your own, it will take an hour to reach downtown.
The airport has a spacious parking lot in the form of eight levels of a car park. The security is pretty good, running 24/7 with a gate system. The fare is around RM4 an hour (first 3 hours) while the daily rate is RM46.
The shuttle buses are also available at the main terminal, on level 1, where you can also find taxis. This level 1 is also the place where you can find the express train and the regular transit train. If you use the express train, it takes you 30 minutes from the airport to Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station.
The fare is RM35. However, if you use the regular train, it is cheaper but you have to make 4 stops at the major spots: Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and Salak Tinggi. From the airport to Bandar Tasik, it costs you RM26.50, while to Cyberjaya and Putrajaya it is RM6.20. To Salak Tinggi, it is RM3.20.
