About Kansai Airport
The formal name of Kansai International Airport (KIX) is Osaka Kansai International Airport. Usually, people often refer to this airport as Kankū.
This airport builds on an artificial island in the middle of Osaka Bay, which is about 40 to 50 kilometers from the center of Osaka.
As one of Japan’s most busy international airports, it has been around since 1994 and has handled domestic and international air travel.
It has 4 kilometers runway and is also the closest to several cities in Japan.
Kansai Airport Terminals

There are two terminals in the Kansai Airport area: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Terminal 1 is the main terminal that specifically serves flights using regular airlines for domestic and international.
It is a four-story building with a modern concept designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
If you use Terminal 1, you will find it easier to access the train because the position of the train station is directly adjacent to the terminal.
While Terminal two specifically serves LCC (low-cost carriers) with lower landing costs than Terminal 1.

Compared to Terminal 1, this terminal has fewer bus connections and no train services.

- Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport. This hotel is an ordinary hotel or a mainstream hotel as is often found. The location is next to Terminal 1
- First Cabin Kansai Airport. This second hotel is quite unique because it is a capsule hotel located next to Terminal 1.

Kansai Airport Transportations
There are several transportation options that you can use if you want to go from the airport, ranging from trains, taxis or cars, buses, to ferries. Some of these types of transportation are:
1. JR Limited Express “Haruka”
Transportation using the Haruka train is an economical, comfortable, and friendly option for travelers who are going to the airport or about to return from the airport.
This train can connect several stations in tourist destination areas. Haruka’s departure is every 30 minutes.
2. JR Kansai Airport Rapid
Departures using the JR Kansai Airport Rapid are every 15 minutes and serve trips from the airport to central Osaka, Tennoji, and several other major stations.
3. Nankai “Rapi:t” and Nankai Airport Express
Both trains can connect the airport with Namba, the center of Osaka’s southern city.
The departure time of Nankai Rapi:t is every 30 minutes, while the Nankai Airport Express is every 15 minutes.
In addition to trains, your mobility can also use the airport limousine bus, which can take you to various places and hotels. Then there are taxis and airport transfers.

Going to Kyoto from Kansai Airport
If you want to go from Kansai Airport to Kyoto, there are several ways to get to this classic Japanese city, and you can take the bus and/or the train.
1. By Bus
If you exit Terminal 1, take bus stop number 8 to go to Kyoto City for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, from Terminal 2, take bus stop number 2, with a journey time of about 1 hour 45 minutes.
2. Using the Train
Please take the limited express “Haruka,” which will take you directly to Kyoto Station. Travel time is about 1 hour 20 minutes.
