Various Means of Transportation at Phuket International Airport

So, you are thinking about coming to Phuket for your next trip and you are starting to plan around. If you are going to spend some time on the island, you need to know how to get around and how to use the available airport transportation. You should know that there are some options and ways to get to your destinations from Phuket airport. If you know which one to access, you won’t have any problem moving around.

1. Shared Mini Bus

If you are low on the budget, the shared minibus can be the perfect transportation especially if you are travelling from the airport to other destinations. The most expensive fare is 200 baht if you want to reach Karon or Kata Beach from the airport. From the airport to Patong Beach, it is 180 baht. To Phuket town, it is 120 baht. The cost is applicable per person.

Keep in mind that you will have to share the vehicle with other passengers so it can be crowded and you need to wait long for the vehicle to load and pack. Moreover, the vehicle moves and drops the passengers along the route so if your hotel is located far, you may be dropped off last.

2. Meter Taxi

This is a comfortable way to reach your destination from the hotel. You can find them easily outside the international or domestic terminals. For most people, the fare is pretty costly but you need to consider the comfort. From airport to Phuket town, it costs you between 600 and 900 baht. You will have to pay around 700 to 1,050 baht to Patong beach. It costs the maximum of 1,250 baht to Karon or Kata Beach. Keep in mind that you will have to pay an extra 100 baht for the airport fee.

3. Airport Buses

There are two types of bus services leaving the airport. Airport Bus Phuket (the orange one) is only going to Phuket old town. The fare is only 100 baht and it takes 90 minutes to reach your destination. Another service is the Smart Bus that is going to Kata, Karon, and Patong beaches. The bus is cream with blue strips. It has several fare lists and destinations.

  • To reach Bangtao, it takes 46 minutes and it costs 100 baht.
  • To reach Patong, it takes 1 hour and 25 minutes and it costs 150 baht.
  • To reach Kamala, it takes an hour and 150 baht.
  • To reach Kata, it takes 1 hour and 46 minutes, and the fare is 170 baht
  • To reach Karon, it takes 1 hour and 37 minutes with 150 baht as the fare
  • To reach Rawai, it costs 150 baht and it takes 2 hours and 16 minutes

Be advised that those time schedules are the standard ones. It depends on the traffic so the time can be longer or shorter – although the latter one is often highly impossible. The buses are pretty comfortable and inexpensive. However, it can be quite slow and long.

4. Limo Taxi

This is the most expensive transportation but also the most comfortable one. This is the newest type of transportation that can be found in the arrival hall easily. The taxi is cleaner and faster. Unlike the meter taxi, you don’t need to add the airport fee. In general, though, the service is pricier than the meter taxi but it is worth the service – not to mention that most of the drivers drive better than the meter taxi drivers.
