Wat Arun Temple is the oldest temple in Bangkok. Built in the Rattanakosin era in 1782, the prong on the Chao Phraya riverbank becomes one of the wonderful sights until nowadays.

After Burmese destroyed the former Ayutthaya capital in 1767, the new capital named Thonburi was built by King Taksin on the west river bank.

What to Do in Wat Arun Temple

The most interesting feature is the huge prang. It is decorated with millions of colorful Chinese porcelain in small pieces.

Climb the stairway in the Prang to reach the terrace that gives beautiful river views. Inside Wat Arun Temple also houses many features to explore such as the ordination hall, four pavilions around the Prang, and cloister that feature Buddha images and the former kings of the kingdom.

How to Go There

Located on the Chao Phraya’swest river bank, the Temple of Dawn Wat Arun is in the opposite place of Grand Palace and Wat Pho temple.

Visitors can reach the temple by boat as the best transport. The express boat to choose should stop at the Grand Palace’s Tha Tien Pier.

From the east river bank, take the Tha Tien express boat to cross the river. The short ride gives many beautiful views to take some pictures, especially the huge prang of Wat Arun.

Entrance Fee

The Wat Arun Temple Bangkok opens every day from 8 am to 5.30 pm. The Ticket is 50 baht per person.
