Chicago Airport Terminals

Terminals at Chicago Airport

It is common knowledge that O’Hare Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Chicago, and, in fact, it ranks as the fourth busiest airport globally. Consequently, O’Hare comprises more than one terminal.

There are four terminals in O’Hare International Airport: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and Terminal 5. The numerical sequence skips Terminal 4, as O’Hare does not have a Terminal 4. Although it did exist in the past, Terminal 4 O’Hare has not functioned as a terminal since 1993.

The reason for this change is rooted in the increasing demand for international flights. Due to construction constraints, a temporary international terminal, Terminal 4, was opened by the government. Terminal 4 served this purpose until 1993, when Terminal 5 was introduced.

Subsequently, Terminal 4 ceased to exist as a functioning terminal and is presently utilized as a bus shuttle center.
